Kandy is not only famed for its historic monuments, but also for the beautiful botanical gardens with its delicate orchid houses with rare blooms and fine rose gardens. Mahaweli River connects the garden on 3 sides and a suspension bridge connects to the opposite bank. This once served as Lord Mountbatten’s WWII headquarters, though for the Kandyan kings this was very much a pleasure garden.
Nature lovers will be fascinated with the surrounding mountain ranges and thick rain forests for a quick hike or a camping trip. These regions, mostly left to its own devices are home to many indigenous wildlife and flora.
